Policies and Regulations

Loans & Periods

  • 1.Staff: A patron can hold at most 40 items at one time. The loan period for each item is 56 days. Items can be renewed for 3 times, 56 days each time, 224 days altogether.
  • 2. Student: A patron can hold at most 10 items at one time. The loan period for each item is 28 days. Items can be renewed for 3 times, 28 days each time, 114 days altogether.
  • 3. A patron can request 5 items at most. A new due date will be assigned and the request notice will be sent to the patron who holds the item when another patron requests this item. In this case the item must be returned within 14 days after the request date. Books cannot be renewed when other people are requesting them.
  • 4. Course Reserve books can be checked out for 2 hours, renewable for 1 time for another 2 hours. Books checked out after 3:30pm can be returned by 9am on the next day without penalty.
  • 5. DVD can be checked out for 7 days. Items are non-renewable.

Overdue

Patrons cannot borrow items when there are overdue items on his account. A 1 RMB per book per day fine will be incurred on the patron’s library account until all overdue items have been returned. Note: overdue fine of Course Reserve books is 1 RMB per book per hour.

Email Notifications & Frequency

  • 1. Loan Notice: email notices will be sent for every item checked out.
  • 2. Library Account Notice: email notices indicating the status of all checked out items will be sent to all patrons on the 2nd day of every month
  • 3. Due Notice: email notices will be sent 2 days before the due date.
  • 4. Overdue Notice: email notices will be sent on the due date.
  • 5. Request Notice: an email notice will be sent to the patron who holds the item when it is requested by another patron
  • 6. Return Notice: an email will be sent to the patron who requests the item when it has been returned to the library
  • 7. Request Cancellation Notice: If the patron fails to check out the requested item in 3 days

Loss

The patron may need to make an amount of compensation fee to the library according to the status of damaged book. If the item is lost or badly damaged, the patron will be charged the cost of the book’s replacement price in addition to the processing cost of 50 RMB for each item.

To keep the library in good order and create a comfortable environment conducive to learning and research, users of the library are asked to follow the following rules:

  • Users should not reserve seats by any means;
  • Users should not speak out loud;
  • No phone calls are permitted;
  • No food or drinks are permitted;
  • No umbrellas are permitted to be brought into the library unless they are completely put in plastic bags.

N.B.: The Regulations of the Library are exercised temporarily until they are endorsed by the Library Committee of CUHK (SZ). The Director of Library Services is the authorized person for the explanation of these regulations when needed.
